Scott and I are soda drinkers. Though I drink water like a fish, I do treat myself to a fizzy drink every now and again, and when the kind folks at SodaStream allowed me the opportunity to do a product review, I was thrilled!
For the purposes of this review, I received the SodaStream Fountain Jet, one carbonator, one set of MyWater flavor essences, and seven SodaStream soda mixes: Cola Free, Root Beer, Diet Pink Grapefruit, Cranberry Raspberry, Energy, Diet Lemon Lime, and Ginger Ale.
If you've never heard of SodaStream, it's a fantastic product that allows you to make soda in your own home! The SodaStream machine will carbonate cold tap water for you, and then you can either drink it as plain sparkling water, add juice, or add any of SodaStream's 30+ soda mix flavors. It takes seconds -- literally -- to go from an empty bottle to a soda flavor of your choice! Best of all, at about 25 cents per 12 ounce serving, it's cheaper than most brand name sodas you buy at the grocery store.
The Fountain Jet starts at $79.99 and soda mix flavors start at $4.99.
Here's how quick it is:
- Add cold water to the SodaStream bottle
- Attach the bottle to the machine
- Press the carbonator button 3-5 times
- Add the soda mix using the pre-measured cap
- Gently shake to mix in the flavor
And that's it!
SodaStream is eco-friendly, which is something very important to me. The bottles are BPA free and reusable, which means that you won't be sending empty soda bottles to the landfill. Additionally, the SodaStream machine requires no batteries or electricity, and empty carbonator canisters can be exchanged for full carbonators. SodaStream cleans and refills the empties, further protecting the environment.
Another benefit: All SodaStream flavors are high fructose corn syrup and aspartame free! They use sugar or Splenda instead.
Finally, SodaStream's fizz lasts longer than soda bought at the store. I made two flavors three days ago (Diet Lemon Lime and Cola Free) and both are still as fizzy as the day I made them.
Coming in Spring 2011 are SodaStream Naturals, which will be made without any artificial colors or artificial sweeteners for those who are sensitive or seeking to eliminate these things from their diet. I am very much looking forward to trying these flavors when they come out!
I just can't say enough good things about this product. I think Scott summed it best up when he said, "I love SodaStream!"
