Five Question Friday 6/10/11

Happy Friday! This week hasn't been particularly out of the ordinary, and we don't have any "big plans" for the weekend (for once! I am happy about that!) so I'll just skip the intro and go right into this week's Five Question Friday!

1. How close to your childhood dreams is your life now?
Nowhere close. I was going to be a fiction writer. I spent most of my days as a kid either with my nose stuck in a book or with a pen and a paper writing one. I was really, really good at it. For a few semesters in college, my major was creative writing and my stories and poetry were always extremely well received by my teachers and peers. Unfortunately, it got to the point where life (and the need to work) conflicted with the schedule of classes for the creative writing program I was in...and so I switched to liberal studies. I had been in college for 9 years at that point and just needed to be done with it.

Since then, I got my masters in marketing, I'm an Internet marketing professional now. I love my job to death and I definitely have a passion for it, but it's about as far as you can get from fiction writing. Maybe when Angelica is older and I have more free time I can pick it back up and get published. If Stephenie Meyer can do it...why can't I? (Sorry, Twihards!)

2. What is one must have item for the summer?
Sunscreen. I am the stereotypical redhead who burns after three minutes in the sun. Lucky for Angelica, she also inherited that trait. (I did spot a couple of freckles dotting her cheeks this week though and MAN, is it cute.)

3. Do you have your kids stay up on school stuff during summer vacation? (Or, if you don't have kiddos, did your parents make you keep up on school stuff during summer?)

Angelica isn't old enough to have a "summer vacation" yet so I guess you could say we have year-round learning. When she's older and in school though, I hope to get her in some fun summer activities when school is out...depending on what her interests turn out to be, maybe art lessons, swim lessons, dance, martial arts, sports...but I want her to actually enjoy having that break when school is out. While the school year is a great time for educational growth, as a kid I always found the summer a great time for personal growth.

4. Do you can or freeze fresh produce?
As much produce as I eat, it's lucky to last long enough to need to be frozen! I do occasionally freeze strawberries for smoothies though.

5. Do you get ready for the day first thing in the morning?
Since I'm a working mom I pretty much have to get ready for the day either the night before or first thing in the morning.

Rylie has a few freckles too! ;-) They are cute. You know I have to lather my pasty white kids in sunscreen all summer, so that is definitely a must have in our house too.

Have a great weekend! Rylie asked this morning if Angelica was coming over this weekend. ;-)
