Nursery Rhymes are a huge part of childhood. When I was pregnant with Angelica, one of the things I looked forward to the most was sharing some of my favorite nursery rhymes with her. Since she has had a love of music since day one, I've been very happy with how well she has taken to nursery rhymes.
One thing I've recently learned is that nursery rhymes actually help children learn how to read. They help children understand the cadence of language and teach them how to detect rhyming words. Studies have shown that understanding rhyming words helps children learn to read faster. Because nursery rhymes are both short and rhythmic, children are able to easily memorie them, which gives them "phonemic awareness".
For all of these reasons, I am really glad that I was able to get a copy of the Mother Goose Club's DVD, CDs and coloring book for review!
The Mother Goose Club's CDs and DVDs are a GREAT way for children to learn nursery rhymes. The show, featured on PBS stations, is a series of one-minute educational programs which promote early literacy. The show is colorful and engaging, inviting your kids to get up and dance and sing along with the DVD.
Angelica is a BIG fan of the Mother Goose Club CDs and DVDs! She loves the characters, and particularly loves to correct them if they make variations on the nursery rhymes. (Ahh, how kids love to be right.) We both love to color, and Angelica and I have had a great time sitting down together and coloring some of our favorite nursery rhymes.
