After how busy our past few weekends have been, we had planned on taking it easy over the weekend. The key word here is "planned" because the weekend really wasn't restful.
Saturday Scott and I cleaned out our cars, vacuumed them, and took Scott's car up to the shop to get fixed (his brakes needed to be fixed and he had an oil leak). We took Angelica out to lunch, went shopping for outdoor toys (we got a big plastic pool for Angelica and she LOVES it) and then came home and cooked dinner.
Sunday we went to church, went to the grocery store, then came home and did chores galore! We finally tackled the piles of leaves in the back yard (but we're still not done!), Scott scrubbed down the kitchen and I scrubbed down the bathroom.
I was all set to get back into a routine this morning, but Angelica woke up with a fever and a bad cough, so today I'm working at home with her. She's currently watching WordWorld while I get some work done. The poor thing has no appetite but is still full of energy. I wish I had as much as she does right now...and I'm not even sick!
This weekend I realized how much Angelica's starting to mature emotionally. She's now communicating her emotions in words more than just having temper tantrums. For example, when I was scrubbing down the bathroom last night I asked her (in a firm voice) to stay out of the bathroom because the chemicals are dangerous. A little while later, when I was taking out the trash from the bathroom, I saw her sitting in a corner and just pouting. I asked her what was wrong and she said, "Well, you're being mean to me." That pretty much broke my heart, and of course I apologized and promised we'd play as soon as I was done cleaning.
Later that night, when I was getting her ready for bed, she told me that it makes her sad when Daddy yells at her. Truthfully, he doesn't yell at her a lot (he's not the yelling type), but he does occasionally raise his voice after he's asked her about 3,000 times to stop doing something and she's still doing it. (Admit it -- we've all done this from time to time on a bad day! I'm guilty too!) So I asked her if she wanted me to talk to him about it, and she said, "no, I will tell him". And she marched right up to him, and said, "Daddy, please don't yell at me anymore."
Another funny sidenote: A couple of days ago I asked her to pick up her toys before bedtime, and she replied, "Well, actually, that's not fair." I guess that's better than throwing herself on the floor and screaming her head off, but I had to try really hard to stifle my laughter.
Aside from being disagreeable at times, I'll take this kind of communication over epic tantrums any day of the week!
Another thing she loves is watching video of herself. I was cleaning up some files on my computer while she was snuggling next to me on the couch, and she saw this video of herself from when she was about 11 months old and just thought it was amazing. We must have watched it 10 times. It amazes me to watch it, to think how much she has grown in the last two years. I remember this day like it was yesterday. We had gone out to lunch with Daddy (it was a Saturday and he was working so we met him at a restaurant), I was supposed to be studying and writing a paper, but she wasn't napping. So I made the best of it by giving her snacks and making her laugh. (And yep, our apartment was cluttered as you can see in the background. Scott was working 70+ hours a week, I was working full time and I was halfway through my master's degree. And our apartment was way too small for us. Clutter was a way of life. I hated it and it's why I'm a neat freak now.)

It's so funny how kids love watching video's of themselves! My husband took video of my son at soccer on Saturday and I think that he watched himself about 20 times in rapid succession!
love the bright colors in the first one. it really pops!
