Angelica can read!

Last weekend we were at Target, and because Angelica loves books so much, we cruised over to the kids books sections for her to entertain herself for a few minutes. I knew they had been learning a few "popcorn words" at school, but I had no idea she could do THIS.

SHE CAN READ!

I was pretty sure I was annoying the other people in the aisle by standing there and recording her, so I only caught a few moments, but she eventually read through this whole book, which she had never seen before.  She read each "regular" page and had Scott read what was under each of the "flips" (which is what she calls the "lift the flap" part of books). I was SO  impressed by her ability to read!

There were a few words that she got caught up on, but she even took the time to sound them out, letter by letter and syllable by syllable.

I am a proud, proud mama. My little girl is so smart! She'll be at the top of her class when she starts kindergarten later this year!

A must-watch for every new mom and mom-to-be

I think we've already covered in-depth what a completely sappy person I am. Yesterday I watched this week's episode of Teen Mom 2 and at the end they showed a preview of next week, with Leah's little baby Ali about to go into surgery, and Leah says to her, "Mommy would do it for you, but she can't." It tugged at my heart because I said the very same thing to Angelica when she was about the same age, about to go into surgery to remove the cyst above her eye. I was beyond freaked out about her going under anesthesia and about the amount of pain she would feel.

It's those things you don't really grasp when you're pregnant or have just had your first baby (at least I didn't). That love you have for that baby...your inner "mama bear"...it's just such a strong force within you that is born the day your first child is.

So today I saw this video and it made me chuckle and tear up at the same time. I wish I had seen it 2 1/2 years ago! It really is a must-see for every new mom. My favorites from this video are "You will make mistakes" and "Google doesn't have children".

Enjoy!

Angelica's Robot Dance

This was just too cute! I have no idea where she learned to do the Robot Dance, but I've been trying to catch it on video and finally did. Oh, and you'll find out at the end that she thinks the Robot Dance is SERIOUS BUSINESS. (Scott was sitting across the table from her just as a point of reference for who she's talking to.)

Angelica Rocks!

As promised, here's the video of our little Angelica almost crawling! She's been doing this for probably about a week now (so starting at 4 1/2 months). She gets up on all fours and rocks and then throws herself forward, like you see at the very end of the video. Also, at the end, I promise she doesn't fall off the bed. She still had about a foot to go, she was just too close for my comfort!

Isn't this just crazy? The pediatrician, the ladies at her daycare, other moms, all tell me that this is way ahead of what she is supposed to be doing, and I am just in awe of her!

The solid food eating is going well too. I haven't mentioned much about it lately, but she hasn't found much of anything she won't eat. She's had rice cereal, applesauce, bananas, sweet potatoes and carrots so far, and scarfed them down like nobody's business. She also likes to "feed herself", which consists of me putting food on the spoon, then handing it to her and she shoves it in her mouth.

Solids = big mess though. This morning she got a rice cereal/banana mixture followed by a bath...she was a MESS. So was I. So was the floor. So was her bumbo seat. I think it may be time to get a high chair :)
